Formula 1 Teams and Drivers

There will be a total of 11 teams competing in the 2007 Formula 1 season. Some highlights of the season are:

  • Making their debut for the 2007 season are Lewis Hamilton (McLaren), Heikki Kovalainen (Renault), Adrain Sutil (Spyker)
  • New team, Spkker where they have recruited a Malaysian, Fairuz Fauzy as one of their test drivers.

Here is a run down of the teams and driver for the 2007 season.

1. McLaren Mercedes

This year the McLaren Mercedes team will have the Number 1 car, thanks to the movement of 2006 Formula 1 champion, Fernando Alonso from the Renault F1 team. The team also include, long time McLaren protege, Lewis Hamilton, the first Formula 1 black drive. I would be exciting to see how this team fair for 2007 as they have been plague with reliability problems. Alonso will have to show whether he still win another World Championship in a different team.

2. Renault F1 Team

Due to the ban on tobacco advertisement, last years main sponsor, Mild Seven has been replaced by ING. The team will still be managed by Flavio Briatore. The team has retained Giancarlo Fishicella as their main driver. He will partner a new Finnish driver, Heikki Kovalainen who has been been a Renault F1 test driver since 2005.

3. Scuderia Ferrari

Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen will lead the charge for Ferrari this season. Even though Micheal Shumacher is not the drive, I am sure that he will be providing all the technical and racing advise to ensure that the team wins the 2007 Championship. In terms of sponsorship, Ferrari has lose out the Vodafone logo to McLaren. Due to the ban on tobacco, the main sponsor, Malboro will have its name in bar code format.

4. Honda F1 Racing Team
Also due to the ban on tobacco advertisement, the main sponsor of British American Tobacco, the car now have the picture of the earth painted on it. The car looks very stunning. The team has retained their 2006 drivers of Jenson Button and Ruben Barrichello.

5. BMW Sauber

I viewed this as the most improved team for 2006. The team also retains its 2006 drivers of Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica.

6. Toyota F1The team that has the biggest budget could not produce much results for 2006 due to poor reliability of their cars. The Toyota F1 team has also retained its 2006 drivers of Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli.

7. Redbull Racing
Mark Webber crossed over from the poor performance team of Williams to Redbull Racing. His partner will be the oldest Formula 1 racer, David Coulthard. DC has been trying many years to win the Formula 1 championship but without any success. My advise to him "Get out of the way old man and let the younger ones race".

8. Williams-Toyota
The team has not been performing well since BMW pulled out their engine support. Now lets see what they can do with a Toyota engine on board their chassis. The team has retained Nico Rosberg and has bring our Alexander Wurz from their testing stable.

9. Toro Rosso
The sister team to Redbull Racing has not been producing much results for 2006 but they managed to put in some exciting acrobatic performance from their tumbling and accidents. They wll be using a V8 Ferrari engine for 2007. The drivers of the team are Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed.

10. Spyker F1 Ferrari

This is a totally new team. Its a Dutch consortium led by specialist car builder Spyker who took over from Midlands Racing (they took over the Jordan GP Team) using a Ferrari engine. Lets see how they perform for 2007 with their drivers Christijan Albers and Adrian Sutil.

11. Super Augri F1

The team that debuted in 2006 did not show much results. The team will be using Honda engine again. The team's drivers are Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson who was promoted from a Honda F1 test driver to a full time driver.
